Boater Safety/ No Wake Signage – Code Changes, etc.
Most of the No-Wake Zone signs on the Lake need to be repaired or replaced. Officer Chris Fisher and Utilities Superintendent Damon Gammons have been working to improve the signage on the Lake. Over the next two years we will be replacing all the current signage with state approved and message appropriate signage. Officer Fisher has recommended changes to our codes which will allow our Police Officers to better manage some of the personal watercraft safety concerns and decrease the potential for personal watercraft accidents.
Non-Motorized Boats Working Group
I have been selected to serve on the Non-Motorized Boats Working Group, a sub-committee of Florida’s Boating Advisory Council. This is a statewide working group administered by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission where I hope to be able to learn about things we can do to enhance non-motorized boat activities on the Lake. There is also a direct connection to the boat lift project where we want to ensure that there are portage facilities incorporated into the boat lift project for kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, etc. The first meeting of the NMBWG is in St. Petersburg on October 12th.
Community Redevelopment Authority Feasibility Study
The Lake Clarke Shores Community Redevelopment Authority project has been separated into two parts. Part 1 is the creation of the LCS CRA. Part 2 will be the preparation of the Plan of Improvements. The Plan of Improvements is the document that will detail what the CRA will be doing for the area within its borders. Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council (TCRPC) is currently working on Part 1 of the LCS CRA project. Staff is setting meetings with several of the County Commissioners to allow us the opportunity to explain to them why this is important to the Town. The County Commission can veto our CRA. Dr. Kim Delaney, Director of Strategic Development and Policy, is leading the efforts for TCRPC.
2016 Legislative Agenda
In the next few weeks, staff will be asking each of you to help us define our legislative agenda for next year. The Legislative Session begins in January 2016. Palm Beach County Day is early in the month. We will be working on an appropriate handout that discusses annexation, the boat lift as defined within our economic development initiative, and the CRA as part of our economic development initiative. We seek your input for other legislative issues, as well as clarification and elaboration on each of these.
