Zoning Board of Adjustment
Currently the Town’s Zoning Board is an independent Board. There is some confusion created by our codes because the Town Council sits as the Local Planning Agency and there are some overlaps in authority. Further, as we look to the development of the CRA, the Town Council should be involved in projects developing along the Forest Hill Boulevard corridor. Therefore, Town staff will be making recommendations to the Council for code changes to make the Zoning Board an advisory board. Therefore the decision made by the Board would be recommendations to the Town Council and the Town Council would be the final authority for Zoning and Variance concerns.
Palm Beach County Days
Mayor Shalhoub, Vice Mayor Freebold, President Pro-Tem Rodriquez, Council Member Mayes and I went to Tallahassee for Palm Beach County Days. We prepared a Town Legislative Agenda brochure and were able to meet with several Legislators or their Aids to discuss our issues. Sometimes we went together as a Town delegation and sometimes it was necessary to divide up. We were able to show many people the video of the Chain of Lakes Blueway Trail Project prepared by the Ideabar for the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council on behalf of the PBC Metropolitan Planning Organization. All comments received were very positive toward the project.
Representative Kerner and Senator Clemmons are the sponsors for a $286,900 appropriation request for the engineering design and planning of the boat lift, non-motorized water craft portage, and modified fishing piers. The project official title is the Chain of Lakes Blueway Trail Project. The appropriation requests began in the Transportation and Economic Development subcommittees of each Chamber but have been re-assigned to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government chaired by Senator Hayes and to the House Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee chaired by Representative Albritton.
Our goal is to speak with each committee member in person, show them the video, and discuss the project and the reason it is in their committee. We are also speaking to as many of our Palm Beach County legislators as we can to ensure they know the project in case they are questioned by their colleagues. We have also discussed the Project with the Budget Chief for the House Committee and with the Staff Director for the Senate Committee.
The Project has a web site at www.bluewaytrail.com and an associated Facebook page. The video and some other items are available for public review at the web site resources page.
Palm Beach County Fair
We have a small display at the Fair this year.
