Tips to Reduce Water Usage

  1. Toilet tank flapper valves frequently fail to close properly (due to age or poor quality). A symptom is a tank that never stops filling after a flush. Possible excess usage = 5,000 gallons per day.

  2. Spigot on outside of home turned on or left open by intention, error or vandalism. Possible excess usage = 10,000 gallons per day.

  3. Pipe break or leak on customer's side of the meter (dependent upon meter size). Possible excess usage = 200 to 60,000 gallons per day.

  4. Lawn irrigation systems left on (dependent upon meter size and number of heads) Possible excess usage=600 to 2,400 gallons per day.

  • Please note that blown sprinkler heads reduce your irrigation system's resistance to flow which means your usage will increase even though the time the sprinkler is on remains the same.
  • Please note that since our system is always pressurized, an incorrectly closed valve on your irrigation system can allow a flow that may not be readily visible.
  1. Household guests = approximately 100 gallons per person per day.

  2. Filling a pool=approximately 15,000 gallons.

  3. Private service companies such as pressure cleaners often use the nearest available outside spigot for their water. This may particularly impact condominium owners or renters who may not be aware of such use.

As you can see, there are a variety of ways that a customer can generate an irregularly high bill. The average range for single-family homeowner usage is 4,000 to 12,000 gallons per month without lawn irrigation.

We hope this will help you to understand your monthly billing and to conserve in any way to help reduce your monthly usage.
